What is Uniswap?

Uniswap is the largest decentralised exchange, launched in 2018 on Ethereum. Instead of matching buy and sell orders like a traditional exchange, it uses liquidity pools: users deposit asset pairs, and price is set by a mathematical formula based on the ratio of assets in the pool.

This lets any token pair trade without an intermediary or order book. Depositors earn a share of trading fees. The UNI token is used to vote on protocol changes.

Risks to weigh: liquidity providers face impermanent loss when the two assets move apart in price. Anyone can create a pool for any token, so decentralised exchanges are where most scam tokens appear. The model also faces regulatory pressure in several jurisdictions.
