What is THORChain?

THORChain enables direct swaps between native assets of different blockchains — for example Bitcoin to Ethereum — without going through a centralised exchange or creating a representative version of the asset on another chain.

This differs from most cross-chain bridge solutions, which typically issue representative tokens instead of the native asset. THORChain maintains liquidity pools for various networks and automatically routes transactions through the appropriate pools.

Risks to weigh: directly connecting multiple different blockchains is technically far more complex than operating within a single ecosystem, and the protocol has previously suffered exploits causing significant losses. This remains a technically high-risk category.
