What is Tezos?

Tezos launched in 2018 with a focus on self-amendment. Many blockchains facing major changes must split into two separate networks when the community disagrees — as happened with Ethereum and Ethereum Classic. Tezos built in on-chain voting to upgrade the protocol without splitting.

XTZ holders can delegate to validators and vote to earn rewards without running their own technical infrastructure.

Risks to weigh: on-chain governance smooths upgrades but does not guarantee good decisions — community disagreement can still occur even without a chain split. Adoption and market value have grown more slowly than initial expectations at launch.
