What is Shiba Inu?

Shiba Inu launched in 2020 as a token on Ethereum, inspired by Dogecoin and using the same Shiba dog imagery. Initially a pure meme token, the project later added its own decentralised exchange and a layer-two network.

Its supply story is notable: one quadrillion tokens were created, half of them sent to Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin. He burned most of that holding and donated the rest, substantially reducing circulating supply.

Risks to weigh: value comes mainly from community attention rather than practical use. The enormous supply makes each unit's price tiny, which can create an illusion of being "cheap" — what matters is market cap, not unit price.
