NEAR Protocol launched in 2020 with a focus on user experience. Two visible choices: human-readable account names instead of random character strings, and the ability for app developers to cover fees so newcomers do not need tokens before they can use anything.
Technically, NEAR splits the network into shards that process in parallel, raising throughput without pushing fees up. The project has recently pivoted towards infrastructure for artificial-intelligence applications.
Risks to weigh: the AI pivot is a major change with unproven results. The application ecosystem remains small next to leading networks, and the "easy-to-use blockchain" niche is crowded.
