What is Monero?

Monero is a privacy-focused crypto asset launched in 2014. On Bitcoin every transaction is public: knowing a wallet address lets anyone trace its full history and balance. Monero is designed so that this is not possible — sender, recipient and amount are concealed by default on every transaction.

The network achieves this by mixing transactions from multiple users together and generating a single-use address for each receipt. There is no optional "transparent" mode as on some other privacy coins; the concealment applies to all transactions.

Risks to weigh: this is the asset category under the heaviest regulatory pressure. Major exchanges in Europe, Japan, South Korea and the United States have delisted Monero to comply with anti-money-laundering rules. Vietnamese users should note that current rules require trading through licensed providers, and privacy coins are unlikely to be among the assets domestic exchanges support.
