What is Mantle?

Mantle is an Ethereum layer-two network launched in 2023, grown out of the BitDAO ecosystem. Its goal matches other layer-twos: lower fees while relying on Ethereum for security.

Mantle's distinction is separating transaction data storage into a dedicated layer rather than writing everything to Ethereum, cutting costs further. The project inherited a large treasury from BitDAO, used to support its ecosystem.

Risks to weigh: separating data availability from Ethereum is cheaper but carries different security assumptions from networks that post fully to the main chain — a technical trade-off users should understand. The network is young, and the layer-two segment is crowded with competitors holding larger ecosystems.
