What is Curve DAO?
Curve is a decentralised exchange specialised for assets of near-equal value, such as different stablecoins or different versions of the same asset. Its algorithm is optimised for this case, allowing swaps with very low slippage compared with general-purpose exchanges.
Curve serves as key infrastructure in decentralised finance: many new stablecoins rely on Curve's liquidity pools to maintain stable conversion into established stablecoins. CRV is used for governance and can be locked long-term to boost voting power.
Risks to weigh: although less volatile than general exchanges, Curve's pools still carry risk if one of the involved stablecoins loses its peg. The long-term token-locking mechanism for governance power has been criticised for concentrating influence among a small number of large holders.
