What is Cosmos Hub?

Cosmos launched in 2019 under the banner "the internet of blockchains." Rather than building one chain for every application, Cosmos provides a toolkit letting anyone build their own blockchain optimised for a specific purpose, then connect it to others in the ecosystem through a shared communication protocol.

Many prominent projects in the industry are built with Cosmos's toolkit rather than running on a shared platform. ATOM is the native asset of the central hub chain, used for staking and governance.

Risks to weigh: because each chain in the ecosystem is independently secured, an attack on one does not affect others — but ATOM also does not automatically capture value from those chains' success, unlike a model where one central chain secures everything.
