What is Compound?

Compound is one of the first decentralised lending protocols, launched in 2018, establishing the shared liquidity-pool model that many later lending protocols followed.

Users deposit assets into a pool to earn interest, or post collateral to borrow other assets, with interest rates adjusting automatically to each pool's supply and demand — no negotiation or credit application like a bank loan.

Risks to weigh: loans must be over-collateralised, and positions are liquidated automatically when collateral prices fall sharply. As a long-established protocol, Compound has been audited repeatedly, but decentralised finance overall still carries smart-contract risk that cannot be entirely ruled out.
