What is Bittensor?

Bittensor builds an incentive network for developing artificial intelligence. Rather than one company owning the model, participants contribute models or compute and are rewarded in TAO according to how useful their contribution is, as scored by the network itself.

The network divides into subnets, each specialising in a domain such as language processing or image generation. TAO's economics include a 21 million maximum supply and a halving mechanism, similar to Bitcoin.

Risks to weigh: this is a technically complex project, hard for non-specialists to assess. Contribution quality is scored by participants themselves, so the mechanism can be gamed. Decentralised AI is very early and competes with research labs holding vastly greater resources.
