What is Bitcoin Cash?

Bitcoin Cash split from Bitcoin in 2017 after a long community dispute over how to scale the network. Its supporters wanted larger blocks to process more transactions at low fees; the other camp prioritised small blocks so anyone could run a full node.

The result is two separate networks sharing history up to the split. Bitcoin Cash has considerably lower fees and aims to be an everyday payment method, closer to the original 2008 whitepaper idea.

Risks to weigh: the network effect belongs to Bitcoin. Bitcoin Cash has far lower market cap and adoption, and fragmented further when another branch split off in 2018. When two chains share a mining algorithm, the smaller one is more vulnerable to attack.
