What is Axie Infinity?
Axie Infinity is a game of collecting and battling digital creatures called Axies, each a unique tradeable asset. The game drove the industry's largest "play-to-earn" phenomenon in 2021, especially popular in the Philippines and parts of Southeast Asia, where many treated it as a source of income during the pandemic.
AXS is used for governance and certain in-game mechanics.
Risks to weigh: the original economic model depended on a constant influx of new players to sustain reward-token value, and when new-player growth slowed, the entire in-game economy contracted sharply. It stands as a major lesson in the risks of unsustainably designed game economies, and AXS's price reflects that with a deep decline from its peak.
