What is Aptos?

Aptos launched in 2022, built by engineers who previously worked on Meta's Diem digital currency project. The network uses the Move programming language, designed specifically for safer digital-asset handling, reducing some common bugs seen in smart contracts written in other languages.

Aptos processes transactions in parallel rather than sequentially, aiming for high throughput for applications needing many small transactions, such as gaming and decentralised social networks.

Risks to weigh: this is a young network, and much of its initial supply belongs to the foundation, investors and team, released gradually over time — creating potential selling pressure. Its real-world application ecosystem is still being built out.
