What is Algorand?

Algorand launched in 2019, founded by Silvio Micali, an MIT professor and Turing Award laureate in computer science. The network uses pure proof-of-stake, requiring no specialised hardware to participate in validation.

A notable technical feature is that transactions reach finality almost instantly, without the temporary forking seen on many other networks. Algorand targets institutional and government clients, and has been piloted by some countries for asset-tokenisation projects.

Risks to weigh: despite strong academic credentials, real-world adoption has been modest relative to early expectations. ALGO's price has fallen substantially from its peak over the years.
